MTC e-mail

Mason received an e-mail from the Ghana MTC. After reading this, as a North American, I thought, "But I like my standard of living." Daina has a great story about when she arrived in Japan waiting to be picked up - if you get a chance, ask her about it.

Dear Future Ghana MTC Missionary,

We are excited to welcome you to the Ghana MTC. You will find that this is an excellent way to be introduced to the African culture, yet be able to get an answer to your questions about the experience  you will have during your mission.

Many missionaries from North America or Europe who come to the MTC  do not carefully read the travel instructions. We recommend that you do so and pay particular attention to the fact that there is no need to pay any money in the Ghana Accra airport. If you are from North America or Europe, you will be approached with offers to help and demands for money if you accept that help.  Please do not accept any offers to help and do not pay anyone any money. A driver holding a white sign with blue letters that says "MTC" will be there to greet you in front of the airport. We know you are coming and are there to meet your flight.

In addition, you will discover that every missionary who comes to the Ghana MTC from North America or Europe wishes they had brought less luggage. You can more easily manage your mission with one suitcase. To visualize what I am describing, I have attached a picture of the luggage of 13 missionaries who arrived in the MTC recently. Three of the 15 suitcases belong to the one American in the group. The rest of the luggage belongs to the other 12 missionaries.

Please do not feel the need to bring food you have heard is not available in Ghana. The grocery stores are good and you will be able to manage just fine once you are in the mission.

You can find answers to many of your questions at the Ghana MTC website at ghanamtc.blogspot.com.

Please share this message with your parents and do not hesitate to speak with parents of missionaries serving here already or missionaries who have recently returned. And also please feel free to contact us (**********@ldschurch.org).

We look forward to meeting you soon.

Best wishes,

President and Sister Robinson
Ghana MTC
